Where: Little Sugar Creek Greenway at Kings Drive
When: November 3rd 11am-3pm
Volunteers Needed! Please contact Haley: haley@charlottebikes.org
We’re planning on doing a 4-hour
survey on the Little Sugar Creek Greenway somewhere along Kings Drive on Saturday, November 3. We hope to have 5-10 adult volunteers to a) perform a basic count of users, b) administer short (~2 min.) surveys to greenway users, and c) attract people and explain an interactive map and chalkboard/whiteboard.
The survey will consist of questions regarding greenway use, perception/opinions, and economic activity on the greenway. We’ll have stickers available for people to mark on the map where they live, where their trip originated, and/or where they got on the greenway. We also hope to have a large whiteboard or chalkboard where we’ll put up one question at a time, such as “What’s your favorite place to grab a bite to eat while using the greenway?”or “I use the greenway because…”.
The short term goal for our first survey is to, first off, have completed our first survey. I know we’ll learn more as we do this, and part of the challenge is just getting out there to do it. More concretely, though, we hope to be able to put together an op-ed type piece in the Charlotte Observer promoting the benefits of greenways/trails with both quantitative and qualitative support, and to also be able to put together more comprehensive pieces for the CABA website or other uses. Long term, we hope to also speak with business owners to better understand economic impact, and with non-users to see what the challenges related to trails are.
