I have spot checked shops on my own periodically and cannot find one that does. This would be a good project for someone to take on somehow. I can’t for the life of me figure out what the problem is.
You might check with Terry Lansdell at Trips for Kids. He might have some ideas. Trips for Kids icon is on the News and Views page. Click it to open to their website.

It’s very possible that my boyfriend and I will be moving to Charlotte in the fall. We’ve been car-free for years in Denver and Chicago and are hoping that we’ll be able to remain that way in Charlotte.
He’ll be working at Hearst Tower, 214 North Tryon Street. Can you recommend a neighborhood that’s affordable, progressive, and bike-friendly?
Thanks!

Thanks for contacting CABA. Because you will work in the Hearst Tower your best bet is to simply live within 2-3 miles of Uptown and close to bus line. Neighborhoods include South End, Wesley Heights, Dilworth, Elizabeth, Chantilly and Plaza Midwood and NoDA, or directly in the downtown area which is called “Uptown” in Charlotte.
If you look at a street map you will see that the gridded streets are roughly within this 2-3 mile perimeter, but after that cul-de-sacs take over which means bad news for bicycling. Charlotte is such a new city that 80-90% is cul-de-sac territory. Bikes are allowed on buses and the light rail.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if and when you come here.

As far as pricing is concerned before the recession the neighborhoods above were all pretty pricey. Now condos are going rental with breaks on monthly rents. You would have to check that out for yourselves.
Parts of Plaza Midwood are still affordable. Shamrock Gardens, Country Club Estates and other neighborhoods adjoining the more well-known inner-ring neighborhoods are also affordable. Definitely look to a neighborhood surrounding center city if you want to live car free.
So glad to read about your organization! Can you tell me where in Charlotte we can find the bike store that seels recycled/refurbished bikes? We want to get them for the whole family.
Thanks,
JD

Looks like you guys keep busy around here, great site!
So I’m wondering if there are any “community bike shops” in the Charlotte area. I’ve recently transplanted from Asheville, and am hoping to find something like our ReCyclery, a donation supported free community space dedicated to bicycle assistance and education. Any thoughts?
Look at the Trips for Kids icon on our News and Views page, Ryan.
That is what you want. It is called The Recyclery.
Can you make to our annual picnic on Aug 23 ?

Hello Y’ll Bike Riders:
Thank you for the Blinky 7. I can’t wait to use it, but not today because it is pouring rain drops. My mail was delayed due to an incorrect zip code. Please correct to 28117-9733 or 28117.
Sincerely,

Hi, I am interested in shopping for two kid bikes (ages 9, 10) for a family that my son’s 5th grade class adopted through the Union County Christmas Bureau in lieu of their own Winter class party. Can you give me a price range for 24″ bikes before I make the trip uptown. I am looking for something presentable in the $20-$40 range, is that do-able?
I just sent you a personal email, Susan.
Thanks for contacting us.

I just posted the info. This is horrible and no doubt will stir sorrow and passion from all who care about safe biking and criminal justice.
