New Belgium Brewing is bringing its beer-toting, film-traveling, nonprofit-benefiting show finale to your backyard. Clips Beer and Film Tour is coming to Charlotte on Friday, October 4 at Independence Park.

This is the final stop for the fourth annual tour, which has raised more than $250,000 for nonprofit organizations since its inception. Last year in Charlotte, approximately 550 people attended the show. This year Charlotte Area Bicycle Alliance is the benefiting nonprofit.

We are extremely pleased to announce that after a concerted search, the CABA board of directors has selected a new paid executive director.  Jane Cacchione will be our new executive director and comes with an extensive background in bicycle advocacy and non-profit experience.  Jane started her cycling adventures as a 1st grader, pushing a bike down the sidewalk because she didn’t know how to ride yet! We try not to make too many calls for action here at CABA. However, the NC Legislature is considering a bill (H817 / fulltext: http://legiscan.com/NC/text/H817) that will have a serious impact on funding for bicycling and pedestrian infrastructure, limiting the ability of local jurisdictions to access funding normally used to construct sidewalk and bicycle projects. With this bill in place, projects like the Little Sugar Creek Greenway will been much more difficult to accomplish, if not impossible.

After announcements made this afternoon from the White House, it is all but certain that Mayor Foxx is heading to Washington D.C. to serve as the 17th U.S. Secretary of Transportation. Although we at the Charlotte Area Bicycle Alliance wish him well as he moves to the national stage, we cannot help but be a little sad to see him go.
