June 30, 2009

Thanks Jessica, Joey and Common Market

We got a nice cozey spot right off the front entrance to the Common Market and sold vegan pastries. Big crowd passing through for great deli sandwich carry outs (try Soybean on margle rye….ymmmm) , and believe it or not (if you haven’t been there) there is a masseur on duty el cheepo !

Jessica munches for CABA

CABA bakesalesignWe raised a decent amount of money and talked to local bike enthusiasts from Eugene, Oregon, Boulder, Colorado and Orlando, Florida and a guy who lives car-free. Common Market is a major gathering spot for the funky urban grunge crowd of the Plaza Midwood neighborhood. Sure beats a sports bar. No plasma screens in this place. Very friendly staff. Stay and linger.

2 MORE BIKE CRASHES

June 30, 2009

Hal Misenheimer and Daniel Knight

We wish them both a speedy recovery. Hal was struck at Park Road and Carolina Place and Daniel was struck at Selwyn and Welseley in the Booty Loop.  No citations given to the second driver because she “didn’t see” the bicyclist. The “didn’t see” alibi typically gets the driver off hassle free. Go figure. For graphics and detailed text and get-well comments see: CharlotteVelo.

CAR-FREE FRIDAYS IN PITTSBURGH

June 30, 2009

If they can do it so can we

Pittsburgh is a city about the same size as Charlotte (and just as hot in the summer !). The local bicycle advocacy group – Bike PGH – (which just happens to have over twice as many members as CABA….ugh) launched a city-wide initiative earlier this summer to encourage commuters to leave their cars at home at least once a week.  “Car Free Fridays” – are  days  when the air is a little cleaner and the streets a little safer.  A day to welcome the use of smart transportation. For more info, see: Pittsburgh rides proud.

Seeks position on CABA Board of Directors

Max has been nominated by Mark Sumwalt (Dad) and Ann Groninger (Mom). The Board will be meeting in a closed door session in July to decide if the bylaws can be amended to allow pre-adults. Their decision will be made public at the CABA annual picnic in August.  Max has been a CABA member for barely a month.  His personal trainer has him on a special diet in preparation for his first century ride.

Max is dreaming a future victory at the Tour de France

Dreaming of a Tour de France victory while pedaling on his back - GO MAX !

Says Max: ” This Board needs some younger members. All they’ve got now is a bunch of old farts.”
